Motorola Razr+ 2024 vs Samsung Z Flip 6
The rivalry between these two foldable phones began with the launch of the original Razr and Z Flip in 2020, and since then, both have evolved significantly, introducing versions with larger cover screens. Today, both models feature exterior displays that cover nearly the entire front of the phone. Unlike book-style foldables, these clamshell designs open to a standard smartphone size and fold down to half their footprint, making them more pocket-friendly. The latest versions, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Razr Plus 2024, are the best yet, though they differ in several key aspects.
Price is a major consideration for many buyers. Samsung's Z Flip 6 is priced at $1,100, which is $100 more than the Razr Plus, which remains at $1,000.
The most noticeable difference between the two is their external screens. The Razr Plus 2024 (Razr+ 2024) features a 4-inch cover display that wraps around its two outer camera lenses, while the Z Flip 6 has a 3.4-inch screen with a cutout for its cameras. Despite this, the Razr Plus offers a better display quality with a HD resolution of 1,272 x 1,080 pixels and a 165Hz refresh rate, compared to the Z Flip 6's 720p resolution (720 x 748 pixels) and 60Hz refresh rate.
When unfolded, both phones have similar inner displays. The Z Flip 6 has a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Razr Plus has a slightly larger 6.9-inch pOLED screen with a 165Hz refresh rate. This makes the Razr Plus marginally longer and wider than the Z Flip 6, though both have the same thickness.
Camera-wise, the two foldables also differ. Both have a 50-megapixel main camera, but the Z Flip 6 includes a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera as its secondary shooter, whereas the Razr Plus features a 50-megapixel 2x telephoto camera. Motorola chose this configuration based on user preferences for zoom shots over ultrawide ones. The Razr Plus might be less ideal for group selfies but more versatile overall. For selfies with the phones unfolded, the Z Flip 6 has a 10-megapixel camera, while the Razr Plus boasts a 32-megapixel camera.
In terms of hardware, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is equipped with Qualcomm's powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, while the Razr Plus 2024 uses the slightly less powerful Snapdragon 8S Gen 3. Despite this, performance differences are negligible. Both phones come with 12GB of RAM, but the Razr Plus only offers 256GB of storage, whereas the Z Flip 6 has options for 256GB and 512GB.
Both models run Android 14 and have different update promises. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 will receive seven years of updates, aligning with the industry standard set by Google for its Pixel line, while the Razr Plus will receive three years of Android updates and four years of security updates.
Finally, the color options vary. The Z Flip 6 is available in yellow, light green mint, dark gray silver shadow, and powdery blue in stores, with additional colors available online. The Razr Plus comes in hot pink, light green, dark blue, and a yellow-ish peach fuzz.
